On November 30, Barrie Central’s Alumni Association will be hosting a Grey Cup party for all Canadian football fans. This is the second year the party will be held at the Barrie Legion at 410 Saint Vincent Street. The doors will open with some pregame festivities about 4:30. There will be a silent auction, games, food and refreshments available. Students are welcome as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. All funds raised will be donated to the William Simmons Student Assistance Fund and Barrie Centrals football teams. The student assistance fund was created by Bill Simmons a former teacher and coach at Barrie Central. He left funds in his will to help students who were in financial need. This fund has been used over the years to help students participate in things they otherwise would be unable to do. A portion of the money will used to help support Centrals football teams as well. The promotion of the event has been a class project for Mr. Young’s grade 10 Business class and with it they will get a chance to promote and organize a event that will actually take place. Tickets for the event are only $5:00 and can be bought in advance at the Barrie Central school office or the day of the event at the door. There will be a number of former Barrie football coaches in attendance and it will be a great time to reminisce about the great times had by all playing football here in Barrie. So whether you were a Jag, Viking, Invader, Wildcat or Phoenix, you will be welcome at this event.
