On October 25th, 2014, Winnipeg Alternative Medias Josh Sigurdson and John Doull decided to walk into the Manitoba Legislature with cameras and ask the security guards about the new security protocol at the building. The guards kindly informed us of the new protocol. They told us that wed come up to the front desk at the doors, show photo ID, sign in on the sign in sheet and clip a visitor tag that appears to have a tracker in it. We then walked freely around the building without seeing any security walking the hallways on any of the floors. Perhaps the mainstream media may be hyping the extent of the security protocol in the building. There were no apparent metal detectors and it didnt seem like an overly policed environment at all, except perhaps the creepy feeling of being inside a giant masonic temple. We must keep in mind that this is a public building with public funding. Josh Sigurdson also asked the guards about the CBC offices in the building and the security guards went on to say that not only are there CBC offices in the building, but there are Winnipeg Free Press offices as well! CBC, of course, is tax funded, kind of a government mouthpiece. The Winnipeg Free Press is owned by FP News which has chairmen who once sat on the board of directors for major banking giants. We apologize for the camera dying during our taping, it was solely charged by rubbing the battery on Joshs hand. The camera had previously died already, but we were in the area and really wanted to see if we could get something. We will keep you updated on any further security protocol.
