On October 5, 2012 I was running late for a meeting at work, stuck in a traffic jam on 62 crosstown, and thinking it would be a good day to go fishing. It wasnt that I hated work (at least not any more than any other morning), or that the weather was nice (it was cloudy and cold and windy). The pike would be biting, and my boy James, who worked nights, would probably be down on Snelling lake slaying them. I had mental image of him flash through my head from two weeks previous, when I ran into him landing a decent one. youtu.be/VuIvyhxHbUk I thought for a second about calling him to tell him be sure and strap the life jacket on now that the water was getting cold and the wind was getting nasty. But the traffic was opening up and I started thinking about the work meeting (I was running it) and stepped on the gas. When I got out of the meeting about an hour later, there was a frantic voice message on my phone from my oldest son...James was in an accident, they were at Ramsey with him, I needed to be there. I thought of work accidents and bike accidents that might leave him injured, even seriously, but still alive. But in my heart I knew what happened, I knew I should have been there one way or another, knew I was too late. m.startribune/local/minneapolis/172977641.html We miss him every day.
