On Saturday 22 June 2013, Traffic Services received a tip-off from a member of the public that an illegal drag racing event was set to take place that afternoon on Old Marine Drive, opposite the Civic Centre, Cape Town. The Highway Ghost Squad intercepted over 100 dragsters that had gathered. After conducting roadworthy checks on all the vehicles, the Ghost Squad officers suspended 41 vehicles for illegal modifications and issued 23 fines for various violations
