On September 16th, officers with the police department took a burglary report from a business on Highway 61 in New Madrid. The suspect had entered through a back door and stolen the monitor and DVR from the store’s surveillance system. After searching the area, an officer found the stolen DVR and a pair of gloves in the alley behind the business. The DVR itself had been busted, but the hard drive inside the unit appeared unharmed. We contacted the manufacturer of the DVR who said that the hard drive was probably still good but it had to be played in an identical unit, so they sent us a loaner to try to recover the video. On October 1st we received the equipment from the manufacturer. We attached the hard drive to the unit and were able to recover all of the lost footage from the burglary. Subsequently, a suspect was questioned and confessed to the burglary. He was placed under arrest and charged with Burglary 2nd Degree and Stealing. Joey Higgerson Chief of Police
