On Sunday evening September 14, 2014, I said farewell to my best friend and true love, Jack August Limo. After a brief, four month battle with prostate cancer Jack passed away peacefully at home with me and his sister by his side. Jack was a proud Canadian, immigrating to Canada from Finland at the age of five. After arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax, he and his family made their way across the country and settled in Vancouver where he grew up. Jack married and had one son, David who is now married to Amber Chen with whom they have an adorable, precocious five year daughter, Addisen. Jack served forty years with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller and retired with the rank of Major. I love him with all my heart and I can not describe the profound sadness that I feel at this moment in my life. After the cancer diagnosis in May we talked of our life together a great deal and soon came to realize we had no regrets and wouldn’t change our time together one bit. Caring for Jack taught me much about myself and my love and compassion for him grew each day as we faced his illness together. He never once complained about his situation, taking each day in stride. His favourite little girl, our Shih-tzu Majia, was a steadfast companion after Jack retired in 2006. In the last days of his life she would spend all day in bed with him – she knew his life was fading. She has rarely left my side since his passing. I was blessed that he was part of my life for over 20 years. He could always make me laugh and eat my veggies, sometimes at the same time! We enjoyed road trips on the Honda Gold Wing, as well as travels to the sunny south and throughout Europe on numerous occasions. In the winter we hunkered down by curling and going to the Ottawa 67s hockey games. We often said to each other, “I love you more than yesterday but not as much as tomorrow”. All are invited to attend his funeral services at the Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa, on September 23, 2014. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am, with the service at 1:00 pm, followed by interment in the National Military Cemetery at 2:00 pm. For those who wish, flowers are welcome or donations to the Ottawa Mission Foundation, Prostate Cancer Canada or a charity of your choice in his honour would be appreciated
