On The Road With Roxie North by Northwest June 28, Lebanon, Oregon OK, OK, so I lied. I said I didn’t miss having TV for the first 10 days of our annual summer escape. The one in the motor home is not properly hooked up so all we could watch was movies. I said it was fine with me. Liar, liar. On our first full day at Mallard Creek RV Resort and Golf Course here in central Oregon, the ever-generous Paul Magana let us borrow one of his TVs – and installed it himself. Walla, we have TV. I got caught up on some baseball and golf, watched the Today Show and even a re-run of a classic Seinfeld. Yes, I admit, I missed it. We’re in Lebanon, home of the world’s largest strawberry shortcake (I’, not making this up, folks) and former UCLA hoops coach Ben Howland. Residents here were upset when they tore down one of the last remaining drive-ins to erect a Super Wal-Mart, but we were happy with the decision as we did our shopping there Wednesday morning. Paul and Judy, friends from the desert who spend four months here every summer, continued their hospitality by inviting us to dinner our first night. It was a long trip, nearly 50 yards from our site to theirs. In addition to the TV, Paul put in a water softener and Judy gave us a foam mattress topper. Maybe we’ll adopt them. It wasn’t very nice of me then to take Paul’s money on the golf course Thursday, but I did. To the tune of a whopping nine bucks thanks to an unexpected 80. Wonderful golf course with nary a condo in site. Nothing but trees and bushes and tall grass. Our evening entertainment here is watching Roxie and the Magana’s dog Vino play. They wrestle and run, jump and kiss. Oregon has seduced us. We’re next headed to Salem to see more Palm Valley friends, Bob and Gloria Jackson. That’s only an hour from here. And, we’ve already booked a return visit to the fabulous 7 Feathers in Southern Oregon for a week. Might not leave the state for a few more weeks. Can you say Oregonians?
