Rowan, first African-American National Security Council member, was born (1925) in Ravenscroft, Tenn. 3. Kenneth Gamble, "father of the Philadelphia sound," was born (1943) in Philadelphia, Pa. 4. Amanda Randolph of The Laytons, became one of the first African-American (1948) to appear in a national network television series. 5. Six days of rioting began (1965) in the Watts section of Los Angeles.
