On This Day In Herstory. On December 9, 1945, a month after completing her film work on the Jerome Kern biopic, Till The Clouds Roll By, and going on maternity leave from MGM, Judy joins some of entertainments greatest musical talents for a memorial tribute to Jerome Kern to be broadcast today on CBS radio. Kern, one the most important composers of the day, died on November 11 at the age of 60 after suffering a brain hemorrhage while walking the streets of the city of his birth, New York. His loss can be tremendously felt throughout the world of theater and cinema. Oscar Hammerstein (Kerns friend and collaborator who was with Kern when he passed), Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore, Nelson Eddy and others along with Judy come together to sing some of Kerns popular songs. Judy will sing one of the numbers she filmed just a few short weeks ago, Look For The Silver Lining; the song made popular by Marilyn Miller in the 1920 musical, Sally. The tribute will end with Judy and her fellows stars singing another Kern standard, They Didnt Believe Me; a song introduced in The Girl From Utah in 1914. With Kerns unexpected passing, rewrites are being considered for Till The Clouds Roll By, which will not be released for another year, but will, itself, be another fitting and well deserved tribute to the great composer.
