On Thursday, March 27, 2014 The Children’s Center’s Community Engagement & Future Directions (Juvenile Justice Programs) will present a community dialogue entitled: African American Males in Crisis: The link between literacy and the Juvenile Justice System. This dialogue will explore solutions to the growing trend of young men experiencing behavioral challenges, or increasingly falling behind academically and becoming suspended from school, incarcerated, and/or involved within the criminal justice system. An esteemed panel will engage in discussion providing insights regarding recent legislation on 3rd grade reading levels and matriculation, connecting literacy to the state of the African American Male, and how we can keep these young men out of the prison system and on the right track towards being productive members of society. The discussion will take place on March 27, 2014, from 6:00-7:30 PM at The Children’s Center’s Midtown Campus, 79 Alexandrine. Panelists Include: State Representative Thomas F. Stallworth, III Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon Attorney Chris Blount George Winn, The Children’s Center Chief Operations Officer Kevin Smith, Detroit Public Schools Judge David A.
