On Thursday the 9th I embark on the toughest spiritual and physical journey that I have attempted this far in my life. These are pictures of the Bob Marshall Wilderness complex in Montana, where I will be hiking 100-150 miles in 5-7 days depending on conditions. I have failed more than I have succeeded in life and this is the culmination of much soul searching and personal growth. Im not going to be stupid about this trek, but I will also be pushing my personal envelope and boundaries to achieve my goal of 20 miles a day. I have made arrangements for things if a bear or sasquatch finds me to be a tasty meal. There are some areas with 3 feet of snow on them already and the Rangers I have talked to said it could snow while Im there. I am as prepared as I can be for being one person carrying everything they need on their back. Ideally I would have a teammate, but this is a solo journey. I will have way points of my route programmed into my watch and I have a compass and comprehensive map of the area. Once I get to Montana I will be renting a satellite phone just in case I get into a bad situation. I have been extremely thorough in my prep for this and I know I will come out of those mountains a different man. I am by no means a badass, Ive never served in the military, passed any type of SERE training, or even finished boy scouts, and I dont claim to be. I am driven to push myself physically and mentally to see what Im made of and in this instance failure truly is not an option. I will be sending my family and close friends my route and check in points, but the goal is to be completely off the grid, self sustained, and as disconnected from society as humanly possible. Many of you are my inspiration and push my internal drive even father by the accomplishments that youve made and I know the only limits I have are self imposed. And of course I will post the obligatory selfie before I completely go off the grid. I plan on taking hundreds of pictures and will be able to remove these when I return.
