On Tuesday 2 December Goodwood Police were privileged to share a milestone with one of their members. W/O Aletta Burger, or Aunty Mollie as she is known to her colleagues, reached 40 years of service in the South African Police Service. She was congratulated by her colleagues and thanked for being a professional and caring person. According to Lt. Col Riaan Gouws, her immediate commander, Aunty Molly is always willing to assist in everything and is always first to present a gift or just giving a kind word. Burger joined the Railway Police on 2 December 1974 as a clerk. She worked in the provincial office until she was promoted to constable in November 1983. When the Railway Police and South African Police amalgamated in 1986, she was posted at D.F Malan Airport, the now Cape Town International Airport. In 1991 she was transferred to the Goodwood Magistrate Court, where she was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1995. In 1995 Burger was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer and started working as a shift member. Later Burger was employed as an Archive clerk, where she is still working. At a small function, W/O Burger said that she will remember 1Samuel 7:12 that says “Thus far the Lord has helped us” On the photo W/O Burger is with Lt. Col Riaan Gouws and Col Hansia Hansraj.
