On Tuesday morning I received a call from a Tracy from the Amanzimtoti SPCA to report a large snake that had been reported to them at a home in Umbumbulu. Tracy put me in contact with the complainant who reported the snake to be very large. The complainant compared the thickness of the snake to the width of her thigh just above the knee, and said that it was mixed colours. From this description I was pretty sure it would be a Southern African Python. Due to these Pythons being a highly protected species, I dont charge a fee as I usually would to go and retrieve it. All I expect in return is that the complainant calls me only when the snake is actually visible, and that they keep an eye on it so that when I arrive they can point it out to me. In this instance however, as in many instances, the size of the snake was grossly exaggerated and the Python ended up being an 80cm long Puff Adder with a girth of no more than 50mm. Ha ha ! Well... it was a really scenic area and after a short drive, I was able to find a beautiful, uninhabited place to release the snake... Thank you very much to Tracy and her colleagues from the Amanzimtoti SPCA for escorting me to the complainants house. Universal Reptiles Jason Arnold 0827456375
