On VietnamElegy I speak of an underlying theme to the painting that crapped out on me....explosions, mirroring one another, mimicking the Rorschach Inkblot Test. So I let the idea fracture...tear apart, right there on the canvas. A ripping fissure, thus symbolizing an America divided. The images shown below reflect the full year it took to gradually hand-paint the shredding; as the surrounding elements were individually laid in, the split inched its way down near the bottom of the canvas under the Claymore, and stopped....signifying that the decades of separation were finally easing, a nations wounds were slowly healing...but the lessons were just beginning.
