On Wednesday I was on hold with the IRS for 2 hours 3 minutes and 42 seconds, waiting to speak with someone about an employment tax issue when their system simply told me that they could not answer my call at that time. I was unceremoniously hung up on. After 2 hours 3 minutes and 42 seconds. During that time a commercial flight could have traveled from IRS headquarters to Minneapolis; the space shuttle could have made 1½ passes around the Earth at the equator; a baseball game could have been played; and an old man could have left a bingo hall and driven thirteen whole miles. Were this a private business, it would be insolvent inside a week.
