On Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 7:24 a.m. officers of the Smyrna Police Department were contacted in reference to an assault that occurred in the 500 block of West Commerce Street at approximately 6 a.m.. An investigation revealed that three males were involved in a physical altercation after an illegal drug transaction went bad. Two males, Larry Wheeler Jr., 19, of 100 block of Savannah Drive Smyrna, DE andanotherindividual responded to the residence to confront Alexander Brothers, 36, of the 500 block of West Commerce St. Smyrna, DE at which time Brothers swung at Wheeler in a menacing manner with a baseball bat and then smashed out the window of the vehicle belonging to Wheelers mother, Brothers then struck Wheeler twice with the baseball bat at which time Wheeler pulled out a knife and cut Brothers several times during the incident. Wheeler was treated for minor facial injuries and released. Wheeler was arrested for Assault 2nd degree and Criminal Solicitation. Brothers was arrested for Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief, and Menacing. While officers were still investigating the original incident and conducting interviews at the Smyrna Police Department, reports were received at approximately 1:21 p.m. of shots fired in the area of Commerce Street in the Town of Smyrna; officers responded to the 500 block of West Commerce Street and contacted a male victim. An investigation revealed that the male victim was involved in an altercation with Larry Wheeler Jr., 19 of 100 block of Savannah Drive Smyrna, DE and Eric Sartin Jr, 22, of 1000 block of Wheatleys Pond Road Smyrna, DE and possibly two other suspects who responded to the residence to confront the victim regarding the earlier assault. A verbal altercation ensued and as the suspects departed the area in a motor vehicle three (3) shots were fired at the victim from the moving vehicle, the victim was not injured during the incident. Officers recovered shell casings from the scene and later recovered the firearm used in connection with this incident. Both Wheeler and Sartin were taken into custody without incident in the 100 block of Savannah Drive, Smyrna DE with the assistance of the Delaware State Police and New Castle County Police Departments. Wheeler was arrested for Reckless Endangering 1st degree and Conspiracy 2nd degree. Sartin was arrested for Conspiracy 2nd degree. The investigation is still ongoing and officers are working on identifying any other individuals who are connected with these crimes. All subjects were presented and arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 7 via video phone, Wheeler was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $9,000.00 secured bail. Sartin was released on $1,500.00 unsecured bail. Brothers was released on $5,500.00 unsecured bail.
