On a day that Israeli military bombed a UN school building sheltering Palestinian children for the tenth time, Roger Cohen writing in the New York Times wonders why European narrative of Israeli war on Palestine is so different from that of American media. The answer is in todays media coverage or lack thereof of yesterdays protest marches against Israel all over the United States (see the attached photo of the White House and others). Thousands of people of all faiths, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and others marched all over the United Sates in support of Palestinian children of Gaza but CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, and all the other networks chose to ignore the marches. Not since the Civil Rights marches of the 1960s so many people had united on a single issue in the country. It was not news for the American media since the marches were peaceful and it differed from the narrative that the media has been feeding the American people for more than half a century. My attached lead photo shows the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat with the most influential Pakistani poet, Faiz. Both were at the peak of their careers when this photo was taken. Palestinian liberation movement was a secular democratic movement at that time with leaders like George Habbash representing the Christian Palestinians as well as Muslim Palestinians. Israel wanted to break this unity and with the help of Euro American intelligence agencies facilitated the creation of a militant Islamic movement Hamas to divide and destroy Palestine from within. It is an old approach that European colonial mind has tried in other places in Asia and Africa, most recently with the creation of Al Qaeda, Taliban, and ISIS in Syria and Iraq. My friends often ask me how come Palestinians do not have a Nelson Mandela figure among them to liberate them from Apartheid that Israel has imposed on them. They need to know that Israel follows a model different from the Apartheid rulers of South Africa. Israelis have killed every Palestinian leader who had the potential of becoming a Mandela. They poisoned Arafat to death ten years ago and murdered Hamas founder Shiekh Ahmed Yasin the same year before either of them could unite people of Gaza and the rest of Palestine. Dr. Muhammad M.
