On may way to say Goodbye to another American Hero. A man, behind a white beard and gruffy voice, who worked hard, stood firm on good values, and cared more for humanity than most people I know. I was honored to have spent a lot of time with this man. A quiet man, who shared the nightmares of Vietnam with me as a helicopter gunner; a compassionate man who I watched slip $20 tips under the plate of a $5 meal to struggling servers who needed it more than he did; and a loving husband who ached at being away from his late wife. There were so many subtle lessons that this man taught me in the time I spent with him. He hugged, comforted me and shed a tear during my darkest hour after the death of our son and, I will do the same with his family, today, as Buddy is laid to rest, and joins his wife, at the Houston Veterans Cemetery. If I can ever accomplish having a fraction of the heart Buddy had, I will have succeeded in being a wonderful man, husband, friend, employee, etc.
