On my personal page, my friend Tim has challenged me to name the ten books that have stuck with me and Id like to also share them here. I have spent some time thinking about it. No matter how hard I tried, I couldnt get it down to ten books. Even now, when Ive grouped a whole lot together because they had a collective effect on me, I still feel Ive missed a whole lot off! But, for what its worth, here is my offering: 1. Belgariad and Malloreon series - David Eddings [two series of five books. (In my opinion, better than Lord of the Rings. When I was a teenager, I decided never to read the same book twice, but the characterisations and story keep bringing me back to this series] 2. All the Terry Pratchett Books [ What a treat - I love em all!] 3. Catch 22 - Joseph Heller 4. Nineteen Eighty Four and Animal Farm - George Orwell 5. Dune series - Frank Herbert [enjoyed the philosophising] 6. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever by Stephen R. Donaldson [read in my later teenage years and opened me up from Science Fiction to Science Fantasy] 7. Make Room! Make Room - Harry Harrison (the book Solyent Green was based on) 8. ALL the positronic/ Three Laws of Robotics books by Isaac Asimov [had my imagination soaring in my early teen years] 9. All the Sci-fi greats who fed my thirst for futuristic novels as I grew up: Robert Heinlein, Robert Silverberg, Arthur C Clarke, Frederick Pohl, Harlan Ellison, Phillip K. Dick, Ray Bradbury...[their collective futuristic spirit has given me the soundest love of the present - seeing all the changes happen that I dreamed of happening is amazing - I could have ever gotten from anywhere!!] 10. Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe - Douglas Adams [of course] [and I cant leave out 11 & 12: Sole Possession (my magical realism novel - work in progress) and The Popish Midwife (my novel based on a true story - work in progress) (writing them has had a profound affect on me...especially Sole possession, which I have had inside me for years and I ache to finish)] Please feel free to continue the meme yourself, and spread a little bookishness round the web! :-D
