On our Music Submission form (deepelm/submit), one of the questions we ask bands is Why do you want to work with Deep Elm Records? And wow! We are so humbled by all of the kind words and responses. They all mean so much to us, especially the response below: Deep Elm releases quality music. We care about the company we keep and the roster is not only full of great bands, but diversity. Ive found out about great bands because of other bands on Deep Elm. It is apparent that as a label, Deep Elm is different from other labels. You guys obviously arent out to sign trendy bands...youre signing artists that are making great records. As a fan of the bands on the label, I imagine that many of the listeners that buy from Deep Elm appreciate full records and listen to them in that context. Youre putting out music you believe in. That probably has a lot to do with why many indie labels have come and gone and you guys are still here. Another difference between you guys and other indie labels is the way you release music and promote it. So many people have found their new favorite band through the Emo Diaries series and Postrockology series. The idea of samplers was common when I was growing up with punk and indie labels and the fact that you havent abandoned it and offer them for free makes bands accessible. Couple that with the fact that you are working to license the music of your artists. It is obvious that in this day and age, many young and developing artists simply dont make it on touring and records alone. The desire to search for syncs in film, television, etc. show that you have the artists and labels best interest at heart by seeking to supplement income to keep the vision and dream alive.
