On our nightly walk tonight... my daughter Tempest Hogan and I are coming up this dark, quiet road about 2 blocks from home. This road always freaks me out a bit...first of all its an uphill trek which always pisses me off and makes me say the REALLY naughty words about halfway thru, but its also very dark. The only streetlights are at the beginning of the road and the end. The total length is probably 8 to 10 city blocks, yet there are no blocks. No sidewalk. Just a blacktop road, somewhat deep ditches, maybe 5 houses on each side (10 total) and wooded area around and behind them all. I always think some deranged psycho pervert is hiding down there somewhere, just WAITIN to get me... So - about halfway up, right after I started cussin - a deer; a great, big, boy deer comes running out from behind a house. Running right for us. For a sec I thought he was gonna chase us and impale me on one of his antlers. But, he just ran across the road and then back into the woods on the other side. Thing is - it was RIGHT IN FRONT OF US! We coulda reached out and touched him as he went by! Talk about an instant coronary. Gahhhh!
