On stand your ground Stand your ground laws are a fairly new thing in the US. They have been passed in many areas because innocent civilians were attached either on the street or in their homes and defended themselves. They were then sued by the the perpetrator or brought up on charges final police for shooting or otherwise injuring the very person who intended to do them harm. These laws do nothing more or less thn codefy the God-given right to defend one’s life and family. Several states saw it necessary to pass these laws in order to protect honest citizens against those who are not quite so honest. You cannot take away by law the human rights of self-defense. The only thing these laws are meant to do or accomplish is to prevent the innocent from being abused further by the perpetrator and his attorneys or over reaching law inforcement. In the case of George Zimmerman he stood trial for murder and was acquitted. There is no doubt in anybody’s mind that Mr. Zimmerman contributed to the tragedy that occurred that night. However, he was on the ground being beaten savagely by a stronger younger man and to say that he did not have the right to defend himself at that point is utterly without conscience. Additionally the stand your ground defense was not employed by Zimmerman and his attorneys. Mr. Zimmerman prevailed in this trial primarily because he had a good defense and the prosecutor’s did a terrible job of presenting a very weak case.
