On the East side of New Mexico, 16 miles from Portales on Highway 88, and less than 5 miles from the Texas/NM state line, is the community of Arch, NM. The original school building at Arch has been gone for many, many years. The red brick building was constructed during the Great Depression as a WPA project. It served the community until 1949 when the Arch School was consolidated with the Portales Schools. I, James, attended grades one through four at Arch. The school, until consolidation, was the center of community activities. Great memories! (This picture was taken in July, 2014).
