On the Michael Brown case and the question of prosecuting the - TopicsExpress

On the Michael Brown case and the question of prosecuting the police officer who is the lead suspect in Browns death, three points deserve making that should define a clear and sensible approach to this tragic business: 1. The facts about just about every aspect of this case are in dispute. 2. They have to be examined in the context of a criminal trial of the police officer accused of shooting Michael Brown.. 3. All of us on all sides in this case should suspend our judgment until we see the facts carefully laid out and subject to direct and cross examination. Now for a further point: The three points above do not obviate or rule out of court the significant doubt that many Americans have about the behavior of police officers in many cases -- including questions of abuse of power, excessive force, racism, overreaction, and over-militarization.
