On the issue of lamenting human behaviour and the decline of civil society, when it comes to pushing, queue jumping, bullying, and appropriating, from ASDA to the City Boardroom, from trains to planes, isnt every day Black Friday now, and hasnt it been so for a couple of decades? Ill never forget watching a woman steal a turkey out of another shoppers trolley in a crowded Sainsburys in Ladbroke Grove, London, at Christmas. It was the way she ran down an aisle, bent over the frozen carcass of a looted bird, after depriving a family of their dinner (that made my sympathies for the Deep Green movement intensify) her face a rictus of triumph and competitive animal intensity. So Im guessing we all have the potential to be Morlock or Eloi (and mainly as a result of economic inequality going vertical). So I shall be forced to do my Christmas shopping in Rod Taylors time machine.
