On the list of scariest places to visit on Halloween at number 6 is: Villisca Axe Murder House Villisca, Iowa On June 9th, 1912, a gruesome murder took place in the Villisca House that would forever alter the history of this small Iowa town. Josiah Moore and his wife Sarah, along with their four children, went to attend a local church function. Following the event, family friends Lena and Ina Stillinger were invited to stay over the Moore House. After everyone had returned home and went to sleep for the night, an unknown intruder entered the house and used Josiah Moore’s axe to crush and maim the skulls of every person that was staying in the home. No one was ever convicted of hte murders, and the event paralyzed the town with fear for years to come, as the residents suspected one another of being the monster who committed the atrocities. Today, visitors are allowed to visit and tour the home, having been haunted for over a century by the victims of the murders. Paranormal activities such as flying objects, ghastly voices, and strange noises are said to be common- could it be the anguished spirits of the Moore and Stillinger families, restless after searching endlessly for their killer?
