On the matter of the Bundy family, the ranchers in Nevada - TopicsExpress

On the matter of the Bundy family, the ranchers in Nevada currently surrounded and under attack by an overgrown, tyrannical federal government: We conservatives want to look at this like another Ruby Ridge, or like all the darned eminent domain cases where the government says to a farmer you cannot plant a field of corn on your land because of the spotted-striped-plaid long-haired short-eared prairie gopher, which we have placed under our protection. But its NOT that sort of thing. I like Mr Bundy, he sounds like a solid conservative and a good man. But he doesnt own the land. His family rented grazing rights from government for a hundred forty years, and then he stopped paying the rental fees twenty years ago. I hate to say it, but darn it, you KNOW what that makes him. A squatter. The owner of the land - the government, in this case - has the right to decide what happens on it. Not the squatter, no matter HOW long he and his ancestors were there. Our Founders advocated - and fought a revolution for - the rights of Life, Liberty, and Property. If we are conservatives, then first and foremost, we must stand up for property rights. This guy doesnt own the property. Hes just used to ACTING like he owns it. Ive been a conservative for all of my 51 years on this earth. And I have NEVER heard that acting like you own the property gives you the same rights as actually owning the property does. John F. Di Leo
