On the tissue issue: I dont ask a tissue seller for a permit, because even permits can be faked. Some are so obvious, I didnt need to think twice: that Malay blind man who sat breathing in traffic fumes the whole day, that old uncle with swollen, darkened legs. If that auntie looked horribly skinny, it doesnt matter if she was conning me either. She clearly was not eating right. I trust my judgment. And if my judgment wasnt 100% right, I let that go. Its just a couple of dollars. There are a lot of cheats so dont give! is a sorry excuse not to think about giving to the truly needy. In Singapore, selling tissue is a polite euphemism to begging. When fellow Singaporeans get so desperate they had to sell tissue, I think we can spare to part with a few dollars. What do I gain? I cannot count the number of times I need a tissue, and theres always one in my pocket. LOL!
