On this Date January 5th: 1806: Sacajawea tells Lewis and Clark she wants to see a dead whale washed up on the beach in Oregon. 1820: A proposal for the United States to buy Choctaw lands was made in the Mississippi legislature. 1852: One in a series of treaties with California Indians is signed today at Temecula. The treaty is to set aside land and to protect the San Luis Rey Indians from Europeans. 1987: National Native News first aired.
