On this Day in Weather History..... *In 1982, a record early season snow hit the Northern Black Hills of South Dakota, where 41 inches buried Galena, South Dakota. Power was out in some areas for 5 days. *In 1949 a tornado moved north northeast from 10 miles south of Rush Center to 6 miles northeast of Lacrosse. Four farms were hit as the tornado passed 4 miles southeast of Rush City. Barns and silos were destroyed on three farms. *In 1780, the Great Hurricane of 1780 formed in the Caribbean. It would become the deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record with an estimated 27,500 fatalities, which alone exceeds that of any other entire decade of Atlantic hurricanes.
