On this Pearl Harbor Day, I thought I would post something that my Aunt, Debra Kinney Johnson posted some years ago about my great Uncle: Col. Adrian E. Drew Heaven, on a Street of Gold My mothers oldest brother, Ret. Col. Adrian Eason Drew, deceased, was in the United States Air Force. He was the family Hero. He and my mother were exceptionally close and thus we all idolized him. Whenever he flew in to GA, he stayed with us. When he was due into Dobbins, wed be on the listen for the C-130 to go over and we knew hed be at our house soon. Wed wait in the front yard until he arrived, showering him with hugs and kisses. We would sit at his feet for hours listening to his stories. He loved this country and our military. He fought in WWII, the Korean War, and Viet Nam. In 1957 he broke the World Speed record in an F-101A Voodoo. Uncle Adrian taught us so much about courage, strength, faith, and love of family. Although he had 3 girls of his own, he and I had a special bond, probably because he and my mother did. I have gifts from all over the world that he brought me when I was a child. Two weeks before he was scheduled to become a general, he had a massive heart attack in Okinawa, and had to immediately retire. Uncle Adrian never let us forget the importance of God in the Military and in our lives. The troops loved him, his family loved him, his country loved him, and I know that Jesus loved him. He was a gentlemans gentleman, a fighter, warrior, and a Godly man. He left for eternity with Jesus 20 years ago on the 27th of July. He is still dearly missed. I cant see a flag or hear a patriotic song without thinking of my precious uncle. When the Air Force Anthem is played, I cry like a baby. Col. Adrian E. Drew, RET, Deceased, was truly an American Patriot.
