On this beautiful day, I would like to share a heartwarming story of 3 young men from Mumbai. At around 5 pm today, one of the young men was on his way to pick up his 2 friends to photograph the Ganesh celebrations in the city. At Mahim he saw a street dog hit by a car which sped away. The poor animal was writhing in pain. A small crowd gathered. The young man called his friends who tried calling the animal helplines and ambulances all across Mumbai. None responded. Festival holiday fervour, I suppose. Since it was a street dog, the men were not sure if the dog would allow them to lift it up or would attack them in self defence since it was in pain. With no help forthcoming, they decided to risk lifting the dog into their car. The dog must have sensed they wanted to help and did not attack. They admitted it to the nearest animal hospital and paid for its treatment. They called me up to say that they felt so good helping the dog in distress and somebody up there must be happy with us! Indeed, Sham Gideon, Akshat Mudbidri and Sudhakar Mallya. Not just the smiling pot-bellied being up there with his pet mouse is happy with you. So are we.
