On this date, October 21, 1899, my daddy was born. Most all called him, Skeet Coulter. He spent the better part of his life with the telephone company in Jacksonville, TX. He began as a lineman for the Two States Telephone Company. This company was later bought by General Telephone Company. At some point he became the Wire Chief and no longer climbed poles. He oversaw the change from calling the operator to the dialing. He retired at age 65. And worked another 10 years for the phone company in Palestine. This company needed him as Palestine still had many switchboards in use in businesses and hotels. He commuted daily.My memories of him- knowing most people in Jacksonville. Always ready to go repair phone service, not complaining when customers were cranky. Coming home for dinner at noon, stretching out on the living room floor for a short nap before going back to work. The time he brought home a little puppy for my little brother. He had it inside his jacket. A kind, happy person. Dearly loved my mother, calling her the most beautiful woman in the world. Sweet memories of this man I called,, Daddy. Wish you were here to have a cup of coffee with me.
