On this day, 16 years ago, Public Enemy released their seventh album, the soundtrack to Touchstone Pictures basketball drama “He Got Game” on Def Jam Records. The movie was directed by Spike Lee and featured Denzel Washington and Ray Allen. Public Enemy became the first hip-hop group to score entire major motion picture when the provided the musical backdrop. The soundtrack featured the title track, a reworking of the Buffalo Springfield 1960’s classic “For What It’s Worth.” Springfield leader Stephen Stills was featured on the track and also appeared in Public Enemy’s music video.
