On this day 22 years ago ,the South African Students Congress (SASCO) was BORN at Rhodes University, Grahamstown. After its parents were in the labour room for a week (1-6 September). SASCO was born to a family of an estimated 600 black and white students from 129 tertiary education institutions who converged to deliberate the formation of a non racial student body. The South African National Students Congress(SANSCO) which was a Black student organisation, and National Union of South African Students (NUSAS) which was a White student organisation came together and gave BIRTH to SASCO. Thus, the Birth of SASCO answered questions about whether it was possible to establish a single non-racial progressive student organization in education tertiary institutions.
