On this day 47 years ago, I became Gerald Jacksons girl. The year was 1967 and I was 14 and he was 16. It was a Tuesday night as we sat on my grandmothers front porch. He asked me to be his girl and I said yes! My first love poem was given to Gerald to mark our 6 month anniversary. I want to share this poem with you. Geralds Girl I often wish that I could find Some new and different way, To tell you all thats on my mind And in my heart each day. But nothing can express my thoughts And deepest feelings, too, As well as this familiar phrase Gerald, I love you. When I think of us I feel so proud, I feel like shouting out aloud, And telling everyone In this whole wide world That I, Brenda Streater Is Gerald Jacksons girl. My favorite love poem to Gerald was titled, My Love Is Yours. I included that poem in my story titled Cupid Bow (Kyle and Kimara Garwoods story). If you have a copy of that story, the poem is in Chapter 11. When Gerald and I chose our wedding day five years later, we wanted a date as close to our going steady anniversary as we could, which is why we got married on July 8th. However, both July 8th and July 11th were special days for us. I often go back and re-read all those love poems I wrote to Gerald, and one day I will gather them together and publish them in a book.
