On this day (Jan. 25) in 1978: formerly called Warsaw, post-punk band Joy Division made their live debut under their new moniker when they played Pips in their hometown of Manchester, UK; the name was taken from the seamy novel The House of Dolls & described an area of some German concentration camps where female prisoners were kept for the officers pleasure...(this clip from later the same year...)
