On this day (Nov. 22) in 1968: The Beatles self-titled double-LP, commonly known as The White Album, was released on Apple Records, featuring such songs as Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Dear Prudence, Helter Skelter, Blackbird, Back In The USSR & George Harrisons While My Guitar Gently Weeps; it spent eight weeks as the UK #1 & nine weeks as the US #1 album; it was recorded in the wake of the groups excursion into transcendental meditation & a number of its songs were written in India; it also marked the beginning of the end for the group - tensions were rising in the studio, with Ringo Starr at one point quitting the band (though he would be convinced to return after a couple weeks); although reviews were decidedly mixed upon release, it now regularly places high on most surveys of the greatest albums of all time (Rolling Stone ranked it #10 in 2003)…
