Of course, it’s not the first time in the Premier League era the Reds have run riot. Here are three other goalfests worth remembering... United 9 Ipswich 0 4 March 1995 Andy Cole became the first man to score five goals in a Premier League game, as the Reds posted what’s still the competition’s record victory. United were cruising at half-time, 3-0 up, but instead of relenting, Alex Ferguson’s side put Ipswich to the sword in a swashbuckling second-half performance. Nottingham Forest 1 United 8 2 February 1999 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer underlined his status as a super sub by scoring four goals off the bench in the final 10 minutes of this contest, which had begun just as brightly. Dwight Yorke netted after two minutes before Forest equalised four minutes later. It was all downhill for the home team from there, though, as United, en route to the Treble later that season, posted a record Premier League away win. United 7 Barnsley 0 25 October 1997 More goals for Andy Cole. The striker bagged three before half-time in a hugely one-sided affair at Old Trafford. It was the sort of match where everything United hit turned to goals: even a right-footed Ryan Giggs effort from outside the box zoomed into the top corner, while Karel Poborksy ended the rout with a cheeky backheel!
