On this day in 1982 the board of supervisors in San Francisco - TopicsExpress

On this day in 1982 the board of supervisors in San Francisco approved domestic partners benefits for city employees. But the measure never went into effect thanks to then mayor Dianne Feinstein. Of course, Feinstein is now touted as an ally of the gay community, but her allegiances are very politically motivated. In 1982 such measures were still controversial and even liberal city like San Francisco had no shortage of anti-gay residents. Feinstein chose to cater to those groups while mayor. Feinstein vetoed the measure, another one of her many votes that amounted to slapping the gay community in the face. Of course, shes a Democrat so people choose to forget this quickly. Its as if it never happened.
