One comforting, reassuring, strengthening, empowering, and amazingly, glorifying characteristic of God is His faithfulness. Its amazing simply because I find such a lack of faithfulness on my part to keep my promises whether I sincerely try to do so or not. First, my intentions are not always backed up by my ability to carry them out or they are really not intentions based upon good motives. They can actually be quite selfish and really not good at all. Thus, if something else presents itself to better serve my own personal needs I often quickly abandon the desire to keep what I have promised along with some clever, self-deceiving justified reason for doing so. God does not act like that. Through Jesus Christ all His promises have and will be completed in a self-giving and grace-filled way. My lack of faithfulness is not a hinderance to His faithful acts of mercy and grace. For that I can be forever thankful and with His help become better to imitate that same characteristic in my life. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, Deut. 7:9 (ESV) God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. I Cor. 1:9 (ESV) God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. I Cor. 10:13b (ESV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9 (ESV) The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself. II Tim. 2:11-13 (ESV)
