One day...I will teach an entire college course on why STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is absolutely my favorite TREK feature. The films only sin is a complete lack of the campy or fun moments people mostly associate with the franchise, which are only considered those things because of the original limitations of the production. Ive always maintained TMP is more along the lines of an episode like The Immunity Syndrome or The Doomsday Machine. Its serious, thoughtful, expansive and dangerous, but with much awe and wonder at the same time. The film is also a serious meditation on how populist entertainment can transcend its origins to become literature. Much more humorous than most people realize, STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is simply a beautiful, stunning and powerful film, which gets better year after year.
