One day.... Many years ago , I was standing in Walmart when I overheard a conversation.... I wasnt in the kid swimsuit aisle, I was behind it. There was a mother pointing out which swimsuits this little girl could afford, apparently this little girl had saved up enough money to purchase one of the $10 swimsuits only..... This little girl was probably six or seven, and she couldnt make a decision right away so her mother told her to stay right there and keep looking and shed be right back. I walked around the aisle and I saw this little girl looking at the swimming suits.... Then looking at her $10 bill.... There was this glittery pink one that was 12.99.... She was brushing her little fingers across it but she didnt take it off the rack because she knew she didnt have enough money..... And suddenly I flashed back about 20 years.... Standing there with my two daughters, wanting to buy them the glittery pink swimsuits but not being able to afford it..... Call it vanity.... Call it living vicariously..... But I handed this little girl a $20 bill.... Maybe I did it more for me than her.... Maybe I did it for my own baby daughters that never got that glittery pink swimsuit.... This little girl wasnt sure what to do when I handed her the $20.... I said buy the swimsuit you want.... Every little girl deserves a glittery pink swimsuit..... And I walked away..... I dont go to Walmart often, but every time I pass the little girl section I always think of her.... This little blond kid with uneven pigtails.... And a runny nose, I remember that...... And that little pink glittery swimsuit..... I bet that girl felt like the prettiest girl in the world in that glittery swimsuit..... Sometimes in life you just pay it forward and walk away.... And most of the time it feels pretty damn good.......
