One day soon, the calm neighborhoods and surrounds of green fields - TopicsExpress

One day soon, the calm neighborhoods and surrounds of green fields with blankets of wild flowers, will be a thing of the past in Pflugerville. The mystic hoot of the owl, the plaintiff howl of the coyote and the raspy caw of the crow will be gone, driven away by the rows of tacky fast build subdivisions and conglomerations of cheap franchise eateries. Instead stands of old oaks, buildings of mortar, brick and stone will fill every horizon, and a hardened skin of pavement will smother the once fertile soil. All will combine to block the cooling breeze, yet radiate and intensify the blazing heat of our Texas summers. Green will become brown and gray. The animate will become lifeless. Inanimate, crowded and hot. This is the master plan as designed by our City Council, Mayor, Planning & Zoning Commission and the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC). This is what they blithely call progress and economic growth. Take one long last look and say good-bye to the Pflugerville you know and love, for she is about to be crushed by progress. ------------------------++++++++-------------------- It has always seemed strange to me... the things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second. -- John Steinbeck
