One is the loneliest number. ID: Great Blue Heron Date: July 4, 2014, 8:11 PM Location: Smithville Park, Eastampton, NJ USA Sharing permitted: Yes This guy spent over an hour in these lily pads waiting, searching, and hoping for a fish. I didn’t see him catch a single one. When I noticed the vastness of the lily pad field he occupied. I was thinking he looked pretty lonely out there. And to me, he looks discouraged as well. So I thought I’d try to capture that feeling of loneliness by not cropping the photo so much. That way the “infinite” extent of lily pads was more evident. Canon 70D, Canon 500 mm F/4L IS II lens, 1.4x Extender III, Aperture priority, 1/400 second, F/5.6, ISO 1600, spot metering, Exposure compensation 0, No flash, from a tripod with a Wimberley Gimbal head. The photo was captured in Canon RAW 2 (CR2) format The photo was slightly cropped for composition and processed with Adobe Lightroom 5 using guidelines from Sheen Watkins at this web page: lightstalking/lightroom-wildlife-photography-create-magical-impact
