One item of contention pre-Iraq Invasion was that US could not - TopicsExpress

One item of contention pre-Iraq Invasion was that US could not afford it and would add to the deficit to which Cheney responded that Deficits do not matter. So the war was never in US budget until 2008 when Democratic administration insisted that these wars were indeed debts authorized by the previous Congress/Bush administration. If I have debt on my credit card, I have an obligation to pay it...even if I can only manage the interest...its a debt owed by the credit card holder and a BIG mistake not to have budgeted for it in the first place. Now we must bite the bullet in present because of past errors. So goes life whether a person or a government. Tell congress to FUND THE WARS... In 1950 and 1951 Congress increased taxes by close to 4% of GDP to pay for the Korean War, even though the high World War II tax rates were still largely in effect. In 1968, a 10% surtax was imposed to pay for the Vietnam War, which raised revenue by about 1% of GDP DO NOT EXPECT SENIORS TO PAY YOUR DEBT!
