One major consequence of child marriage on Malawian girls is limited access to education, as the demands of being a wife and mother are too much and often result in school drop outs. This is tragic as studies have shown that girls who continue their education, especially up to secondary school, are more likely to invest in their own childrens education, allowing them to be economically stable and socially engaged. Illiterate mothers are less likely to educate their children, who then face the same cycle of poverty and abuse.
