One month ago I walked into centennial station to audition for a production called Our Town. I have done many shows over the past two years but had never enjoyed the audition experience as much as I did there. As many of you know i tend to get caught up in life and load my schedule with performing in many shows and laying in loads of homework while still maintaining a social life and family. The first week of rehearsals I did not exactly perform or rehearse as I wanted to because of how busy I had been and coming off of two shows. As I adjusted myself to the rehearsal schedule I began to learn the role of George Gibbs and started having fun. It honestly felt like being a child again. The rehearsals became my life day after day one hundred percent in the zone for twelve hours a week. Ill never forget the advice that I will keep at heart. Jim Freeman and Alison Kopczyk Freeman gave me Have fun with the role. Every day I left rehearsal with something new and fresh. During our town I learned that I perform because I love it, embrace it, and it has created a light in my life that will never burn out no matter how much Im Turned away or rejected or hurt. Leaving a show behind can be tough, but Im not leaving our town on the resumé. Our town will always be a message and guide to my life in many situations and trials I will go through. I had the pleasure learning from many of the cast members and their positive attitudes. It was so great to have Eran Barnes as a mentor and pal, along with Brian Kilpatrick giving me tools everyday, Justin Bulla the sweet educator who I only knew for a short time helped me through tech on and off the stage, Mickey Hyland who never failed to make my day, David Derochea the new guy in town who kept laughter at all necessary times, Amy Chadwell who loved her George dearly, Ross Edward Davis who blew my mind with his old stories, and Gracey Falk for always being patient and focused to help me become a better actor. What great people they are. Abigail Van Patter ladies and gentlemen most definitely never fails to amaze me with her direction. She is no joke, shes the real deal. Best of luck to my phenomenal cast members, you all are truly amazing. Much love ~ Jake George Gibbs.
