One morning when I was a boy, I sat by the great Colorado River at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and watched the sunrise. I watched the rays of light reveal a different color in each layer of dirt and rock as the sun climbed higher into the sky. One night I stood on a mountain top in California and watched the moon and stars shining on the ocean below. I watched a million tiny white lights dancing on the water as far as my eyes could see as their heavenly glow reflected off the Pacific. One afternoon I stood in the middle of the Great Planes and felt the breath of a thousand generations of those who have lived before us and a thousand yet to be born in the wind as it blew across my face while it swept the mighty grasslands. One day I spent the morning hours in the shadow of Mount Shasta among the towering, ancient red woods in the enchanting rain forest. Then I slept that night in the desert on the other side of the same sacred mountain. One night I stood beside the East River in Brooklyn and gazed upon the skyline of Manhattan. I stood breathless as the skyscrapers of New York stood brightly shining like a giant lighthouse for the harbor and the city. One day I walked the streets of Hollywood, and gloried in the glamour of the star studded city. One night I walked into the courtyard of the Blue Mosquel in the moonlight. I saw the thousands of seagulls rise into the sky as they scattered in all directions when the call to prayer was sounded. One afternoon I left the noise and crowds and energy of Istanbul and stepped into the silence and gentle light and shadows of Hagia Sophial. I saw the people marvel quietly at at the magesty of the great cathedral. I have climbed mighty mountains, seen ancient ruins, looked upon the flashing lights of great cities, heard the roaring of the ocean, watched the sun rise and set over different seas and continents. But I would give it all away. I would sacrifice every one of these days and nights. Throw away the sight and memory of all other beauty I have ever seen. I would give up a whole lifetime of all these breathtaking sights and experiences for just one touch, one kiss, one embrace, one moment, one word, from you. Even for just one second to look into your beautiful eyes.
