One of Brads favorite things to do between Spring and Fall is to take his family camping. I can not think of a year that we did not camp in the past 20 years. Unfortunately, this year Brad has just not been well enough for us to venture out. As camping season comes to an end, he was determined to make this weekend our only outing this year. He has felt pretty good this past week, so he unwinterized the trailer and cleaned it all inside and out. He was in the process yesterday of loading up when he received a call from OHSU. The call was to inform him that he was second in line to an available liver, which meant that if the first person decided for whatever reason not to accept it, the liver would be offered to Brad. Even tho we knew it was highly unlikely that the first recipient would turn it down, we opted to play it safe and stay home instead of camp. In the end, he was not offered the liver. So, we are making the best of it and spending the evening with dutch oven food and a camp fire! What we have learned from this experience is that his turn is close! The call can come at any time now and we must prepare emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
